Organisation: Shooting & Editing

Canon 700D: The footage of the trailer is essential, if the footage is of low quality immediately the trailer will look unprofessional and of low quality. Therefore i will be filming with a Canon 700D camera, this is a professional high definition camera and using this will ensure my footage is really defined which which make it appear like a realistic product. As its my own equipment I don't have any limited time on it. I can use it frequently any duration of the time.

Iphone 8 Plus: I have also decided to use my Iphone 8 plus as it too is of a high quality so my videos and photos will come out professional. This is a smaller more portable version of my camera. Plus there are some apps I am experimenting when it comes to editing and as this is a more compact alternative it will be easier for me to do , more complex shots which will allow me a range of different angles within my trailer.

Macbook Pro 2017: I will be editing using my Macbook Pro. The Macbook is one of the best devices for filming and editing, its very compact easy to use and has a lot of storage to hold my videos. Plus Mac has a lot of editing software that i can download. The software I am going to use is 'Imovie' this comes with the Macbook I also want to experiment and use different software's aswell. But as I'm not editing at the moment and just focusing on shooting. I don't have to worry about the software yet. But I am definitely going to use Imovie as its one of the best software's out there.

I have all the professional equipment to ensure my trailer is produced at the highest of quality. Therefore, its up to me to film and edit to ensure that the trailer comes out successful and an existing product.

Drafting & Planning: Synopsis

Screenplay title: Black Rose.
Genre: Psychological Romantic thriller

Logline

A young woman is infatuated and unconditionally in love with her husband. However, after he becomes unfaithful her grief and infuriation turns into a dangerous obsession.

SYNOPSIS

Act 1 summary
What would you do if the love of your life betrayed you? CIARA and DWIGHT were unconditionally in love with one another. After being in a serious exclusive relationship for four years, they were infatuated, the apple of one another’s eye. They performed their usual routine, go to fancy restaurants and wine and dine, visit new places and become intimate with one another. Life was perfect in Ciara’s perspective she had her wealth, status, beauty and most importantly her soulmate.

Act 2 summary

Ciara was not prepared for the event that was going to unfold the following day. In her eyes it was a normal usual day. She decided to express her fondness for Dwight by surprising him, her plan to dress in sexy lingerie with champagne and strawberries in her hand. When she opens the door to their accommodation she starts to hear mumbling and rustling. The noise becomes more prominent in their master bedroom; there was a creak in the door providing a small confined space for viewing. Inside she sees Dwight caressing and about to become sexually intimate with another she female she briefly hears their conversation ‘When are you going to leave that wife of yours’. After hearing this Ciara’s emotional and physical behaviour began to decline rapidly she resorted to hard drug use, suicide and alcohol to remove the pain. She becomes villainous and behaves as though she possessed and her behaviour becomes abnormal and creepy unrealistic elements are included to exaggerate the psychological thriller genre such as her soul leaves her body and weird body language. She tries to change her appearance. She begins to torment Dwight, call his phone on unknown, watch him on her webcam, has a wall of his photos and locations. She’s behind him and when he turns around she disappears and every time he tries to reach out or see Ciara nobody has seen or heard from her.

Act 3 summary

Ciara is in Dwight’s house with matches and the intention of burning the house down. However, he comes home early and catches her in the act they get in a heated aggressive argument which later breaks in a fight. Dwight and Ciara is brutally hurting one another (kicking, punching) then Ciara pulls out a gun Dwight wrestles it out their hand and they both start wrestling on the floor for the gun only their hands are visible. The trigger is pulled then it cuts to blood splattering on the wall. The climax is left on a cliff-hanger so the trailer does not tell too much about the film

Your name: Ashlee Traill

Organisation: Actors Contracts.

I wanted my actors to be serious and dedicated to my project and like an existing real movie actors have a contract. Which is proof they have signed to dedicate their time to my trailer. The contract states all the binds and agreements such as they are ensured they will not be payed for their participation. We will not shoot longer than 3 hours in a single day. I will do my best to ensure their health, safety and welfare is at my best interest during the shoot and they know the final product will be uploaded to YouTube. The contract is proof of their commitment so i expect them to participate and work accordingly with me as they have decided to do this.

Drafting & Planning: Trailer script.

Every trailer needs a script, it is an integral role as every movie is a story. Because my film is a trailer I have created a smaller condensed script for my actors. The script guides and explains what the trailer is about. As i haven't filmed the scenes which require the dialogues the script may be changed and amended, but so far this is the main script every character has a line because very character is important to the storyline and because the duration of the trailer is short the script is very through and straight to the point.

Organisation: Mistress female Hair & Makeup

As the Mistress is only in a very few scenes I don't have to have a lot of hairstyles or outfits. I want her to wear this top as its very alluring and seductive, and as she's a mistress its essential that she looks sexy and tempting to imply that she tempted the protagonists boyfriend to cheat on her,
The hairstyle is what shes going to wear very lose and straight waves, its very modern and it looks expensive like a Brazilian blow dry. Which makes the trailer look professional.
This outfit is what i want her to wear in the photoshoot, i want her to wear a plain black top or a white one i haven't decided yet but i wasn't to use the colours so it has reference to the colour scheme as colours are important in my trailer as they have a meaning. I also like this hairstyle so i may use this hair in the photoshoot as its sleek and very need as has this elegant and classy look.

Organisation: Protaganist male Hair & costumes.

This is an outfit the male character is going to wear he does not have to represent and appear to be classy as the female. I want him to be the typical masculine male. Therefore this black wholly jumper, black jeans and Black trainers. Will make the male cast appear modernized and represent his masculine nature. As if he was overly fashionable that is not a representation of masculinity. He also is wearing a watch and earrings which is a typical male feature men like to spend money on jewelry it makes him look as though he has money aswell.

This is another similar dress sense. I don't want the male to dress extremely fashionable I want him to dress quite plain but still dress nice. This is skinny black jeans and a red jumper. This outfit is not too casual but neither is is it elegant, it fit the male character very nice as it exaggerates his strong physique which will make him appear attractive and desirable towards the public. Plus red has connotations of love mystery and danger, so the colours of the clothing can be alluded and relatable to the plot.

This is another plain outfit but because its a blue t-shirt it makes the character appear very strong which makes him look really masculine. In trailers the male always appears very and has this attractive sex power. That make females fan girl, this will boost the box office sales and make the audience want to watch the trailer as the cast is representative.

This is what the male actors haircut is going to look thoroughly in the trailer. I have a picture of him actually getting his hair done its a very neat and low hairstyle and as hes getting pampered and taking care of his appearance it makes him look more attractive and quite rich as his appearance is very important too him. Plus, this hairstyle is very modernised and it suits the character as hes a male i don't have to worry about versatile haistyles.

Organisation: Protaganist female Hair & Makeup

I have included the makeup routine of the female protagonist. I wanted to work with her on the makeup routine, because I wanted her to be comfortable with the routine because everybody knows their face better than anyone else. But i still wanted her makeup to represent her characterization and suit all the clothing. So we have opted for a very beautiful bronze and nude look. She wears a full face of makeup consisting of foundation, concealer, setting powder, with fake eye lashes, mascara and eye liner and glow powder. This full face of makeup is versatile it can wear with any outfit and it helps make her look attractive and desirable. Plus when previously researching characters who have the same personality and interest of the protagonist vanity, and appearance is an essential part, plus it makes the trailer appear more professional. The nude makeups gives her this flawless and airbrushed look and its compatible with any colours and clothing plus the actress herself prefers this makeup routine rather than bright and bold colours.

I have also used various of hairstyle, we have a wig that the leading actress will wear in the second half of the trailer to show her new identity and appearance it represents after a breakup you reinvent yourself. I have customized the wig to be suiting to my preference its very different to the protagonist natural hair as its big platinum curls.

The actress is also going to have different hairstyles as their is different scenes. I am using the typical slit back, wet look hairstyle. This is the hairstyle the actress is going to have in the bath she naturally has straight hair so this is achievable not only is it seductive and desirable but it enhances her features which it vital because the bath is a very close and personal scene. This is the makeup look we are going to use again very nude and pink colours with long eyelashes. I want her to replicate this face for the scene she looks despondent and livid at the same time, its a very powerful and intimidating look.

This is the other look. The sleek ponytail is a very elegant and classy look, as the actress is modelling the hairstyle it shows its achievable and it suits her and the role. I want my actress to have versatile haistyles as its more realistic and professional as i have organised and planned exactly how i want her to look. This hairstyle is very neat and classy which is what the character is trying to represent. Once again the makeup is very nude, but dramatic and flawless.

This is a hairstyle I will  use a lot in the first scene of the trailer. This is black big curls,i want to use this hairstyle because its contrasting to the blonde so it will exaggerate how much the actress wants to reinvent herself. This curls are very sexy and alluring and it looks likes its been professionally done which makes the character be represented as opulent.

I have used the bun hairstyle because it's a very revealing hairstyle your full face is exposed. The scene is sued this in is a very personal website and i want the audience to exactly concentrate on what the character is doing, and not be distracted with her hair or makeup. Plus it was a dramatic scene when she was in her personal house. It needed to be realistic as people do not dress up at their house. So this is a less sexy look.

This is another hairstyle i am going to use in a scene and also in the photoshoot. I have purchased a faux fringe so this look is achievable and i wanted to use this to represented the vast different hairstyle so my film does not look typical and as if its a low budget. This hairstyle will make my character appear youthful and innocent. Which we know shes not.

Organisation: Costume Ideas (protagonist)

Female Protagonist

I have decided to use this costume for my main protagonist the clothing is inspired by the film 'Clueless' Which is about a rich teen. Because my main female is suppose to look opulent I wanted her to wear this because it makes her look flamboyant and its very classy, youthful and modern clothing.

I want my main character to look very elegant and appear as though shes of a higher standard. I want her to wear a lot of white to suggest this innocence and purity. This jumpsuit was perfect because its got this sophistication and it appears professional. I wanted a variety of different clothing suitable for the different scenes, this clothing will suit the characterisation and their appearance and how they present themselves is very important.

These are two different dresses that I purchased once again they are very different elegant versatile dresses, I have used a lot of white and nude clothing as it has this grace and elegance linked to it. But the outfits are still modernised and youthful the clothing look and are very expensive with lace and silk material. The white dress at the bottom gives my female character this pure and angelic look which i want at first my audience to believe she's so innocent and confused to how she can be so capable of a crime

This dress is very lavish its filled with diamonds, it represents the characterisation of my character who's this wealthy opulent character. The dress is covered with diamonds, the expensive clothing will him me to reinforce my characters behaviour and her social class is more identifiable. I made sure that all my dresses are of a different range and non of the outfits are the same they are very versatile which shows my trailer is not low budget.

This is different to my other outfit its another two piece because my  main character is suppose to be beautiful and alluring I have provided a lot of seductive clothing for her to wear. This also is very opulent as its sparkly and it wasn't cheap it very sexy and revealing because its different from my other outfits it shows I have a range of costumes which shows sophistication.

This another white bodycon dress, white has the connotations of purity and innocence and its very sexy and alluring. Which is the image I want to present as I want my main cast to be very desirable. This dress also suits the characters image as it looks expensive and classy. Its important that the clothing is fitting to my character and as clothing and presentation is a vital part of characterisation like for example if my character is very feminine it wouldn't be portrayed if she was wearing masculine clothing and presenting herself as masculine.

For my trailer to be realistic my character would need to wear different clothing to represent every and every day life as people don't dress elegant and fancy 14/hours of the day. Their are some scenes where her clothing are less formal I have included a more casual but still expensive and modernised clothing. This clothing is very modern amongst the youth ripped jeans and cropped jackets. It still very sexy and the jacket costing £100+ shows the opulence.

This is your classic denim on denim  all her outfits are matching very stylish and modernised. Once again I have used a very expensive BOY London jacket which makes the outfit expensive and its very rich and presenting this lavishness. This versatile clothing is more realistic and as denim is extremely modern it makes my trailer appear modernised.

This is another outfit it's a BOY London bomber jacket and white ripped jeans all my outfits are unique and they all match. I like using black and white because they are very professional colours. Bomber jacket and ripped jeans are modern and the design of the jacket looks expensive and presents the characterisation of the character i want everything she wears to look expensive.

Drafting and Planning: Character Names

Now that I have finalized my Cast I have now finalized the Characters name, the name is important as its a form of their identity and the whole purpose of a trailer is to exaggerate the plot of movie. So it appeals to the audience making them influenced to watch it. It was essential the names were relatable to my plot, but still modernized names the audience will be familiar with, it was vital it also represented the characterization of the characters. Which in my opinion the name successfully does this.

Drafting and Planning: Characterisation

I have decided to go in depth with characterisation. This is a significant element because I am filming and directing not acting. So the ideology I have of the characters, I need to explain it thoroughly so nmy cast can fully execute the characters personality, traits, intelligence and body posture ect. So my actors carefully understand how they are supposed to act.

The female protagonist: At the equilibrium I want the female protagonist, to be humble, meek cute and infatuated. I want her to be very sweet and fragile. So soft spoken, really giddy, optimistic and perky. The reason as to why is because I wan her obsessive transformation to be a shock as its a trailer. The juxtaposition will make my trailer appear more shocking and thrilling as someone so innocent and pure reacts in such a villainous, monstrous way. I want her to be quite soft spoken with a high pitched voice. Always happy and optimistic. For her features, I am going for the stereotypical characteristic of cute, so for her psychical features. the actress would preferably have dimples, be short (under 5'5), quite slim and petite. I have chosen for my actress to have a very small body frame so she is stereotyped as fragile and inferior. Which is clearly not the case. She's going to be very attractive, modernized clothing, versatile hairstyle's and professional makeup, I want her to look lavish and opulent but still down to earth. However, when the disruption kicks in, I want her to be loud, aggressive, very hot headed, argumentative and opinionated. I want her to be monstrous preform random attacks and cause havoc. I also want her to be manipulative and feel as though she's victimized, so I want her to also be delusional she genuinely believes her behaviour is the normal or the correct way to act.

The Male: I want the male to be your typical masculine man, he feels as though hes a breadwinner, and because they are financially able and live in this big expensive house. I want him behave as though he thinks his infidelity is not that serious, I do not want him to have any remorse. This will make the audience not empathize with either of the characters.

Drafting and Planning: Film Title Typography Audience feedback

I have came up with potential names to call my trailer. They all related and I liked how all of them. As i was indecisive I decided to ask my friends and family which name is the best for the plot of the trailer and which logo design is the best and reasons as to why. This helped me to make a conclusion and finalize what name I will call my trailer as there was a vast amount of options.

From my responses which were my target audience adolescents and adults. Everyone was over the age if 15 so the film is suitable and targeted to them, plus I briefly explained what the plot of the film is so it will help to influence their decisions and so they can understand why I choose these name.
  • The most popular in ranks are:The Infidelity & Black rose. This was tied the response I got for the infidelity is it clearly relates to the plot of the movie and its a very short, snappy memorable name. I like the name the infidelity because it defines the plot of the trailer so by hearing the name the audience instantly knows unfaithfulness in a relationship is an essential plot in the narrative. What I don't like about it is its quite cliché and its not original Infidelity is an obvious for a film which narrative is about unfaithfulness. Majority of those who chose this name were males from the age of 16 -18. They most likely chose the shortest and the most relatable name.

  • Black Rose: Black Rose was joined in popularity with infidelity. I personally really like black rose as it has a clever negative connotation. Roses are red which are associated with love and romance and roses are known as the ultimate romantic flower of love. While contrastingly black has connotations of  death, evil, and mystery and by rose which is the symbolism of love it implies that there is going to be death, evil and mystery within a romantic relationship. Those that have chosen this names are firstly English lit and media students so they have analysed and saw the symbolism within the name I received a unisex response as well. In the description they said the black rose signifies the darkness that has taken over the protagonist and its contrast to the loving red rose. The problem with this name is that some people will not get the symbolism and I want the name to briefly define what the trailer is about so automatically the audience is aware of the plot of the trailer.

  • Fornication: Fornication is another name that defines the plot of the trailer. However, this is quite a big vocabulary and a lot of my peers asked me what fornication meant. This is a downfall because if people are not aware of the name they are less likely to remember it. Which can affect the box office success.
  • The name I have decided to choose for my trailer is....BLACK ROSE. This is my favourite name and as its a thriller I like the subtle connotations which relate to the plot. The name has a  ring to it and other existing materials do not have this name. So its unique and original.
  • The most popular logo design was the last design on the 3rd row in the infidelity column. Using this design with the black rose would look very well as it relates and its not over the top as my teacher advised me the simpler and plainer the title the more professional the trailer appears.

Drafting and Planning: Storyboard

STORYBOARD:
As my pitch went exceptionally well and beforehand when creating my story board I carefully planned and thought about the narrative and structure therefore I don't have a whole lot to alter. However, i have made a slight few changes which i will address underneath. The changes will improve the structure and plot of my trailer.

I want to introduce a black screen at the 2nd to last scene so it will create this invigorating suspense when the final scene  cuts in. To leave a climax so my audience will be thrilled to watch the movie and find out what happens next. The scene will the black screen will not include any non diegetic or ambient sounds it will be completely silent. When researching existing products a lot of trailers had this black screen to invoke suspense and as thrill and suspense is essential and correlates with the genre of my trailer its a key feature to include.

In addition to this, from the feedback i have received i have decided to remove the final scene of the handcuffs and include it ion the middle. I will not include the females face so its obvious that its the main character is getting arrested so its evokes suspense. I will be put in the middle with a fast cut to show the severity of her obsession. The final scene is going to be an establishing shot in the dark with the typical '911 or 999 phone call with a voice saying '999 what is your emergency' and then it will cut into the film title and the date it will appear when the trailer is going to be released.

From researching existing products the production companies are not shown until until the disruption so i think I'm going to insert the production company after the equilibrium cutting into the disruption. It creates this suspense and i want my trailer to flow like an existing trailer would so i inserting the production company title after before the disruption its a professional structure.

These are the only changes i have made regarding the plot and story board so far when filming it i could add more intertextuality, but so far these changes are adamant and i already have my plot and structure in place.

DRAFTING & PLANNING: FILM TITLES DESIGN IDEAS

Research Into Target Audience: Focus Group Feedback

Plot from Ashlee Traill

Today I pitched my trailer plot/ ideology to my Class. We had to create a presentation, including   The genre of our film, The plot and narrative idea and include a drafted storyboard. The purpose of the pitch is that when you have an idea its hard to identify the flaws, for example you may understand your trailer and planned and structured it effectively. But when presenting your ideas to a class they can identify whether the storyline is complex and difficult to understand. If the storyline can even be replicated by an17-18year old A level student for example it would be merely impossible to create a SCI-FI or animation trailer successfully in such a short period and with a small budget. Furthermore the target audience is my age group and as my teacher majors in film and media it would be interesting to gain different perspectives and opinions on my plot and what the strengths and criticisms are. If my class reacted negatively towards my plot then I would listen to their constructive opinions I would have to go back to the research and drafting and planning stage and develop and make changes to the plot of my trailer which would urge a more positive reaction. However, if my audience has a positive reaction towards my trailer. I can began the process of finalising my ideas and continue planning and begin filming.

I wanted my class/audience to thoroughly understand my ideology so I first told them about my genre and why I picked it. Why I decided to hybridize the two genres and how the plot and my plot clearly represents my genre. I've even included existing films of the same genre and which influenced me to adapt this genre for my trailer and from the feedback I have received literally everyone in my class understood the plot as everyone correctly wrote it down when asked what the genre or type of my film is. This is positive because this shows my storyline correlates to my genre as its essential because imagine if you have a horror movie but majority of the storyline has romantic conventions, it will attract the wrong audience and receive negative feedback, which will lead to a decline in the box office success. That's why its an accomplishment to find out my class identifies the genre. The genre I have chosen is not too difficult to successfully produce at a professional and high level. It does not involve any special effects such as CGI and this is a genre I genuinely enjoy.

I have condensed and provided a brief summary of my plot. So my audience can understand what the trailer is about in the simplest form so their is no form of confusion or complexity. I have also included the different stages of my trailer the first stage (equilibrium), the second stage the disruption, the third stage the realisation and the fourth stage the new equilibrium. This was very effective because this breakdown made my class thoroughly understand in depth  the plot and structure because when I was looking through the feedback every single one of my members identified the plot and structure when asked what is was. This suggest that the structure is not confusing or complicated. Its very straight forward and I have identified clearly the different stages of my plot. I did this effectively because when I was reviewing the feedback from my classmates they were asked what the plot and the structure of my trailer was and every single one of my classmates correctly identified the plot and structure nobody was unsure or wrote and incorrect plot. Everyone identified the plot and the structure. I am pleased that my plot is easily understood and identifiable and when I was drafting and planning my plot. I continuously asked my teacher to advise me and he told me ironically the simple the plot the better your ideology will be as if you overthink it too much it will be complex, and his advised really worked as everyone understood and enjoyed my storyline.

I have included a visual character representation so my class mates/  audience will be able to visually see what my main protagonist will look like. The appearance of the protagonist tells about about the storyline for example if I want to protagonist to be sultry and seductive I would need a actress to look appealing and alluring to fit this description. The protagonist fits the ideology of my character. and my audience agreed and understood this so I would not have to recast.

I have included a detailed drawing on my drafted storyboard. The story board shows the structure of my plan so my audience can visually image what the scenery the props the camera angles I will be exploring and using it. The first page of my story board is very different fast jump cuts of flashbacks of  the 'typical ideal relationship' so I have included stereotyped things couples do like take selfies, go for dinner, be intimate. Then the second page is where you gradually start to see the relationship deteriorate so husband gets a text from a woman, he starts to arrive from home late being very distant. Then she actually catches him being unfaithful and that's when all the drama and craziness comes in. My classmates thought I visually represented my drawings excellently they thought my drawings were clear and it was effectively demonstrated thoroughly.

I got  a monumental of positive feedback as I was extremely careful when drafting and planning I stuck to a simple but interesting genre which I know I would personally enjoy. This was executed in my responses as I received 'The plot is captivating and engaging' and ' I love the arch of characters and visuals of how some scenes develop and hints of destructive scenes'. The only criticism I received which my teacher picked up and the whole class agreed and this was the only form of criticisms is that in the ending I was going to include the protagonist getting arrested. Because its a trailer and I'm advertising a potential movie I don want to give the whole plot away so I could maybe change this scene and leave a bit of mystery. When researching I was aware of this but the existing trailers I watched gave away the whole plotline in the trailer even though I made me uninterested in watching the movies because mines not going to be an actual movie I decided to give the plotline away the criticism I received was 'get rid of arrest scene as it gives the ending away' and 'comes across as a short film maybe consider changing  the end'. I will listen to this feedback and remove the scene at the end. I can still incorporate the arrest scene but not make it so obvious its the female protagonist and instead of going at the end it can g0 in the middle of the drama scene to create extra suspense.

By presenting my plot it has helped me extremely am confident in my plot and structure and I know that people enjoy my plot an structure and my pitch went really well with numerous positive feedback. I am excited to now start finalising and filming to execute all my ideologies.

Research into similar products: INSPIRATION MUSIC VIDEOS.

VIDEO ANALYSIS:

For an inspiration. I have decided to use Justin Timberlake's Cry me a river. The plot of the music video relates to the theme of my film trailer. The psychological thriller theme therefore some of the shots can be inspiring for me to use in my film trailer, as the ideology of my trailer is to create a trailer based on a heartbroken women who gets obsessed with her adulterous partner. Firstly the scenery of the music video, a modernised white house is a scenery I potentially want to use for my music video, as a home shows the privacy and intimacy of a couple. The close up shots of the objects portrays the social class of the characters as social class plays an important role in general. Social class of the character can change peoples perception of the film. My characters are going to be a financially stable family. Therefore the objects and scenery needs to very lavish and opulent to portray this egotistical lifestyle which this video does so for example the close up shot of the Mercedes Benz the long shot of the mansion and sports car the medium close up of the backyard pool. Furthermore pathetic fallacy is used which is the weather representing the characters mood. As my thriller is based around heartbreak there is going to be a lot of despondency and tears. Rain symbolizes human tears so by shooting on a rainy day will further exaggerate my ideology of the trailer. Other scenes that I will incorporate within my trailer are the shower scene and the rear-view car mirror scene. These scene will cause suspense which is what thrillers are suppose to do.

Another inspiration is Melanie Fiona's 4am. This is another music video which is based around heartbreak from a females perspective. This is relatable and very inspiration as my protagonist is a female. I will be incorporating and inspired by various of scenes from this music video. Firstly the outfit is suitable for my female character a silk robe and a lingerie. This suggest comfort and sexiness. scenes which I find interesting is the dark isolated room where the artist is sitting on the bed. This has connotation of isolation and the close up side shot suggest thoughtfulness and mixed emotion which is what your feeling when heartbroken. The establishing shot sets the scenery and the close up shot of the tap running and the bath tub with rose petals in the bath and the red wine being poured in a wine glass. This is very alluring romance is a significant theme within my trailer.

This is another music video which is very inspirational and can help me develop my movie trailer. This shows the emotional and violent side of the relationship. The first scene of the artist dragging the artist shirts of the rack is a scene. I will definitely try to incorporate this close up medium shot as it shows how infuriated she is, this shows anger and the close up shot of the artist dragging his jewellery gives the impression she soo infuriated she's throwing him out her house. One thing that I cant incorporate is keying the sports car as that's out of my budget and I don't have the finance for that. The close up tracking shot of her hand gestures plus her frustrated and infuriated close ups hot of her face is a camera angle that I will incorporate within my film trailer.

Research into similar products: Careful What You Wish For Official Trailer #1 (2016) - Nick Jonas, Isabe...

TRAILER ANALYSIS:

This trailer starts differently to 'The Perfect Guy'. The starting shot from 0:03 to 0:06 is an establishing shot and a fast track of trees and woodland. Because the protagonist is in a moving transport the surroundings are moving extremely fast. This indicates freedom, appreciation of life and new surroundings.  It then cuts to an over the shoulder medium shot from 0:06- 0:08, with the actors hand out brushing against and grasping flowers. The continuity editing which creates realism and this exaggerates freedom and appreciation of nature and life. Even more from the colour and size of the flowers its obvious the setting of this trailer is a very remote, rural, woodland area, the flowers are yellow which is a very vibrant colour and has connotations of  freshness, happiness, positivity, clarity, energy, optimism and enlightenment. However yellow also has conflicting connotations of cowardice and deceit . Which is a juxtaposed scenery from 'The perfect guy'. Who's opted for a very busy city with sky scrapers and a huge population. Just from the first 8 seconds I have already picked up that this is possibly going to be a movie about a youth enjoying life and his freedom and from the weather the season is very hot and warm. Summer is stereotyped as the ultimate holiday season to have fun, exploring new things, live life. At 0:08 it cuts onto a high angle establishing tracking the neighborhood, which is dominated by a lake and trees. There are only a small number of houses which are right on the lake and are very compact and close together. Automatically the audience can tell this is a very remote area and because of this. Everyone is going to be a strong small community where everybody knows one another and their business. I'm automatically given the impression just from the establishing shot is maybe a outsider is going to move into this small community and things will now change. Moreover, none of the houses are being previewed are grand they all look like working class houses, the neighborhood is not flamboyant neither which indicates this is not a very wealthy neighborhood and none of the inhabitants are of a high social class. It then jump cuts into a closeup shot of feet in sand, it then jump cuts again to adolescents running into the sea in swimsuits they are extremely buoyant and exhilarated as they are laughing its apparent they are having fun. This is exaggeration the point i maid we can tell this is youths enjoying their summer. In a millennial dominated generation youths in the city tend to rely on electronic devices for amusing, so from the lifestyle i can already tell maybe this neighborhood has some traditional values and morals so they defer from the norms and trends of society. Once again fast jump cuts of boats and Jet skiis and another establishing shot of the scene. This is very important as the dominant setting of this movie is the scenery and we can tell they have a different way of expressing themselves and appreciating life. They suggest maybe the new inhabitants may not be as traditional or familiar with the society. A lot of ambient lighting is used to enable realism and exaggerate it replicates that everyday, natural lighting. A vice-over is dominant that any backing track which is essential as its the actor narrating the trailer and it should be above any soundtracks is voice needs to be clear and pronunciation right so the audience don't have difficulty understanding whats being said. This also clarifies the story-line and whats going to be happening in the trailer.

At 0:16 its a medium long shot of a young man jumping out the lake onto the deck. As the youth is dominating the screen and by himself we can immediately tell that this is the protagonist the main character. Ans as hes jumping out the lake we can tell hes probably familiar with the neighborhood its suggest that he probably grew up their. The youth is very alluring and attracting plus his physique is very muscular. Young girls will be attracted and lust over this star. They have used star power as Nick Jonas the actor is a singer and a former Disney star. So young girls will be aware of him and fan -girl and watch the film, and by making him look desirable as possible this is how he's used to draw in an audience.

At 0:22- 0:25 once again a lot of jump cuts are being used specifically at 0:22 its another establishing medium close up shot, the setting has now changed to a bedroom and behind is a small bed and on the walls are decoration linking to the sea their compass painting, facts of ships and sailor. This suggest that hes an inhabitant and was probably bred and raised in this city. The medium close up shot is close enough to identify the characters appearance and the decorations in her room. It cuts to an over the shoulder shot of the actor running in the woodlands with his friend and they have beers in their hands. This is significant as it shows this is his community all his close friends and family are their. From their clothing its obvious these boys don't come from wealthy homes they are wearing large worn out looking plaid shirts, its a very down to earth setting. This also exaggerates the representation that young adults live to part and have fun and are very irresponsible and don't have a lot of responsibility.

However at 0:28 this is the first introduction of the female protagonist and instantly you can see a massive difference in status just by her appearance she is dressed in this white, flared sundress and a matching white sun hat. White has many positive connotations such as innocence, elegance and purity which is what the female appears to be. A point of view shot with a medium long shot is used so it shows the confined space and its obvious that the young male is watching her. She comes out of this lavish expensive sports car which the door is held open for her. Immediately you can tell that she is someone of a high social class she is very wealthy. Furthermore by using the point of view shot it conforms to the stereotype that small remote areas are in everybody's business and has strong community links as people are intriguingly watching her wondering who this newcomer is  a high key lighting is used as its daylight and also to make sure the female is seen as she has a very important role in the film,  a reverse shot is used and a closeup shot of the camera at a side angle on the actors face who is peering out the window is shown. Low key lighting is used to hid and confide the actor peering as nobody likes to be caught peering out the window at someone. The reverse shot cuts into a long shot of the female walking down into a driveway with an older gentleman who looks middle aged and hes wearing a very expensive professional suit. The costume is juxtaposed to the costume the male was wearing a big worn looking plaid shit which suggest low social class, an humble beginning and  low social class.

When it comes top middle part of the trailer which is usually  promoting the problems. This trailer has opted to abandon the usual structure of a trailer. Which is usually the equilibrium, then the disequilibrium and the new-equilibrium . The lighting is a very low key lighting which indicates the couple are possibly hiding and doing something they are not suppose to do this creates tension and it makes the audience curious as to what they may be hiding. There are lots of shots of them together its very intimate very sexual which confirm they are in a sexual relationship. The music become eerie and darker.

The plot of this film is similar to the plot of the trailer i am trying to recreate however there are some very distinctive difference. Its a similar story-line. I didn't want to create the typical obsession psychological thriller. I also dint want to be cliche with a young girl and older man. The protagonist for mine would not even be a male but a female. The scenery also is a scenery. i would not want to film i prefer the cities and the busy life. But this trailer helped me with my research as i found it interesting how the lighting the shots contributed extremely to the plot and story-line. It helped me understand that even the smallest things have the biggest impact.

TRAILER ANALYSIS:

This trailer automatically starts with the title. As the first 0:02 seconds of the trailer the title appears stating the name of the movie. The background of the title is white. The colour white has positive connotations such as purity, innocence. However the actual title is in a 'sans serif' typography. This typography is opted because its more modernised than 'serf' text and its not fancy or over the top, its a very clear font. The colour of the typography is red, the connotations of red is very symbolic especially in this specific genre as red has many connotations that is affiliated with the genre such as romance and love while contrasting violence and danger. The themes that are in thrillers and psychological dramas and this specific movie are the dominating themes, as the ideology is the female protagonist, splits from her husband due to him not wanting to start a family and she meets this guy who's her ideal 'perfect guy'. He's a gentleman, polite, handsome, got a good job ect. However, further into their relationship he becomes very possessive and obsessive and the relationship starts to become dangerous.  Her Ex husband saves her from his psychopath.  The audience wont struggle to see the title as the typography is large it dominates the screen so its distinctively clear what the name is. the first word ('the) is the only word that's not in bold maybe because its not as significant but the word 'perfect' is not only in bold which emphasises the word, but the text is distorted and this is very clever and significant feature because distorted is defined as giving a misleading or false account or impression; misrepresented. This is exactly the ideology of the film the 'perfect guy' is not perfect at all he's the juxtaposition of perfect'. He actually led a misleading, misrepresented lie. so by making the text distorted it indicates how psychotic the antagonist actually is. This shows that everything is done for a specific reason as even the smallest details are a big marketing difference. However 'guy' is till bold but the text is not distorted'. Even though the title is plain, it is very effective and the audience will be attracted and intrigued.

The first shot is an establishing shot, from my research majority of trailers start with an establishing shot, as it set the scene. The establishing shot in this trailer tells its a very nice neighbourhood this this is a financially stable couple. Its a big beautiful city, with a lot of sky scrapers, its usually business people that live in this big cities and live the busy fast paced, career driven life. It then cuts into another establishing shot for like a office promotion part. They were like 8 people dressed very formally in business attire and holding champagne glasses while clapping and congratulating in an office setting. This suggest that they are career driven couple they have achieved a lot. The background music is a cover of 'Rihanna diamonds'. Which is a love song so the soundtrack is relatable to the  ideology of the trailer. It cuts into the male protagonist  playing with a child with a voiceover of the female star saying 'she wants children', the male disagree. Automatically the trailer is 8 seconds in and we already know these are workaholics they have a successful career, financially stable. However, the dilemma is that the female wants kids but her husband is just not ready which tends to be a very big dilemma. Already 8 seconds in and the audience instantly know why their marriage failed. Which is a very positive things because a trailer is just a brief preview of the movie so it shouldn't be long and tedious. There have been lots of jump cuts, which keeps the trailer interesting from 0:13, the audience learns exactly why their marriage failed. The time management has to be perfect. This is such a short duration but it got straight to the point. It then fades into the production company which then cuts to a long shot of when we meet the 'perfect guy' at 0:17 to 1:12 The relationship seems as though its a fairy-tale. However when it was leading up to the drama the soundtrack gradually started to become slower. A sound effect was used for the violent scene to exaggerate it so it appeared gruesome. This is a marketing technique as it captures and intrigues the audience. The soundtrack even drastically changes to a darker artist 'The Weeknd ' 'high for this'. Then there are thousands of jump cuts of various of different shots of the stalker. Plus to make it more interesting various of different angles are used ranging from close-up to medium and long. This trailer is marketed extremely well. Its is only 2:36 minutes long but yet still it tells all the essential and captivating bits in the films and the way its exaggerated it makes the movie appear more interesting than it probably already is. However, a criticism of this trailer which the audience will dislike is that the trailer tells everything that's going to happen in the movie we know the significant events. So when you watch it in the cinemas there is suspense, mystery. The trailer is self explanatory. This could be an improvement for me to not tell so much, because realistically you want the audience to watch the film, the trailer is just to advertise the film.

The camera  angles are extremely significant and the angles are specifically used for a purpose. For example at 0:49 this is the sex scene and it consist of constant close up shots. The reason for this is because this is a very intimate, sexual moment so by using a close up shot. It dominates the screen to imply, this is a significant moment as love is  major theme in psychological thrillers. However, editing is twice as important as this makes the trailer fluently flow. As at 0:49 lots of jump cuts were used to show how rigorous the love scene is which shows how infatuated the couple became with one another.

The lighting in this trailer ranges as its not 1 specific lighting has been used. For example at 2:09 to 2:12 chiaroscuro lighting is used the reason as to why is because the harsh lighting creates an extreme contrast. This is common in thrillers and dramas because it creates suspense especially in these scenes. Furthermore, this is purposely used as majority of the scenes the stalker is in low key lighting the reason because this tends to be the petrifying, suspense scenes. Contrastingly, at 1:27 when the female is with her protector, a high key lighting is used, as it could suggest her way out of this situation he's the light at the dark end of the tunnel. Even down to the lighting is symbolic.

The official trailer on youtube has been watched 9.8 million times. Which implies that its a very popular trailer. It could've had more views but this is a very decent amount for a youtube trailer. So the marketing worked on this platform because a wide audience have viewed the trailer. However the trailer has 33 thousand likes and 1 thousand dislike which is a very impressive ratio. This implies that majority of the audience enjoyed the trailer and felt that it was captivating and marketed very well. Interestingly the trailer got so much positive reviews while the actual film did not preform well according to the audience and the critics. With 5.6/10 IMDb ratings, 19% Rotten Tomatoes and 2/5 The Gurdian. This exaggerates the importance of the trailer, a film can be marketed so well and . actually look better than it actually is. Even if the audience do not like the film, by  just going to watch it, its contributed to the box office success. That's why when marketing and using a trailer its extremely important as this is the initial way to attract the audience.

The genre I have chosen to recreate my trailer is a psychological thriller or drama. This trailer is in this categary and I like the ideology of the trailer. There are aspects that I will be willing to use in my trailer. However the problem with this genre is the storyline tend to be repetitive as this is not the first show I've seen where a woman gets in an obsessive, dangerous relationship. Majority of these modern films are adaptions and recreations of the iconic Psycho (1960). I don't want to replicate the idea but change the story line so its not another typical repetitive stalker movie. But i want to explore the psychological thriller and obsession theme.
